The story of the Well Waqf Utsman bin Affan
Once upon a time, during the time of Prophet Muhammad SAW, the city of Medina had experienced a famine, which caused difficulties with clean water. The only source of water that remains is a well that belongs to a Jew, namely the Raumah Well. The taste of the water is similar to a zam-zam well. The Muslims and the residents of Medina were forced to be willing to queue and buy clean water from the Jews, quoted from the liputan6.com page.
Concerned about the condition of his people, the Messenger of Allah then said, "O my friend, whoever of you donates his wealth to be able to free the well, then donates it to the people, will get Allah Ta'ala's paradise," the hadith narrated (HR. Muslim).
Hearing this, Utsman bin Affan immediately moved to free the Raumah Sumur. Uthman immediately went to the Jew who owned the well and offered to buy the Raumah well at a high price.
Even though he was given the highest offer, the Jew owner of the well still refused to sell it, "If I sold this well to you, Uthman, then I would not have any income that I could earn every day," the Jew explained the reason for his refusal.
Uthman bin Affan, who was eager to get a reward in the form of heaven, did not lose his way of dealing with this Jewish rejection.
He also bought half the well and owned it in turn. Finally, the previous owner agreed to accept Uthman's offer and it was also agreed that that very day half of the Raumah Sumur belonged to Utsman.
Uthman immediately announced to the people of Medina who wanted to fetch water from the Raumah Well to get water for free because today the Raumah well was his.
As he reminded the people of Medina to take a sufficient amount of water for two days, because tomorrow the well no longer belonged to Uthman.
The next day the Jews found their well empty of buyers, because the people of Medina still had water supplies at home.
The Jew came to Uthman and offered to sell the well for the same price. Uthman who agreed and bought it for 20,000 dirhams, then the Raumah well became completely Uthman's.
Then Uthman bin Affan donated Sumur Raumah. Since then the Raumah Sumur can be used by anyone, including the Jewish owner of the old.
